Duke of Edinburgh Awards
What do we offer?
At LVS Hassocks, we offer both the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh award to any student in years 9, 10 & 11. We offer all our students to complete their physical, skills and volunteering, as well as a qualifying expedition that lasts for two days for the bronze award, and three days for the silver. The first three sections can be completed either on site, or off-site.
What makes us different?
At LVS Hassocks we offer a tailored Duke of Edinburgh programme, in which we do not insist on overnight camping. We also offer a variety of facilities for our students to complete their volunteering, physical and skills sections.
These facilities include a café for volunteering, as well as a horticulture area, a music room and a food technology room. We also offer our participants to be given 1-1 time, off timetable to complete each of these sections. We have had our students volunteer in the wider public, in places such as The Fish Barn Crawley, Hickstead Cat Rescue Centre, The Sayers Common Community shop and many more!
What are the outcomes so far?
In the past two years of the Duke of Edinburgh, we have had a 100% success rate for over 20 participants, with all our students earning their Bronze or Silver award. They have all come away with a real sense of achievement, improved confidence, new experiences and friendships too. The award is a world-recognised award that continues to aid young adults and children with college, university and job applications.
