At LVS Hassocks, we believe in providing our students with valuable real-world experiences that enhance their career development. On Tuesday 13th June, we organized a remarkable ‘Hospitality Work Experience Day’ for our Year 9 students at the prestigious Grand Hotel in Brighton. Led by Andi Hirons, the People Director at The Grand Hotel, the day was filled with exciting opportunities for our students to delve into the world of hospitality. From crafting cocktails to setting up guest bedrooms and experiencing the delights of Cyan Restaurant, our students gained valuable insights into potential careers in the industry.
Under the expert guidance of Andi Hirons and the dedicated staff at The Grand Hotel, our students had a chance to explore various aspects of the hospitality industry. The day commenced with an engaging session with bartenders, where the students learned the art of crafting Nojitios, a popular mocktail. They enjoyed discovering the perfect balance of flavours and techniques to create delightful beverages. Next, the students joined the Head of Housekeeping to prepare a bedroom for arriving guests. This hands-on experience involved making beds to perfection and artfully folding towels to create a welcoming and pristine atmosphere. Working alongside professionals allowed our students to understand the importance of attention to detail and the impact it has on guest satisfaction.
In the afternoon, our students collaborated with the Events team to set tables for an upcoming dinner. They learned the art of table setting. This activity highlighted the significance of presentation and aesthetics in creating a memorable dining experience.
To culminate the day, our students had the unique opportunity to work with the Head Chef in the Cyan Restaurant. They savored the delectable flavors of the dishes prepared and gained insights into the creativity, precision, and dedication required in the culinary arts. Engaging in meal preparation alongside the Head Chef ignited their passion for the culinary world and deepened their appreciation for the artistry behind a remarkable dining experience.
The Hospitality Work Experience Day at The Grand Hotel proved to be an outstanding opportunity for our Year 9 students to gain first-hand experience in the hospitality industry. The day provided invaluable insights into the various roles and responsibilities within the field, fostering a sense of enthusiasm and inspiration among our students. They witnessed first-hand the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and dedication required to deliver exceptional guest experiences. This immersive experience will undoubtedly guide our students as they explore future career paths and make informed choices.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Andi Hirons and The Grand Hotel team for their unwavering support and for providing our students with an unforgettable day. Such enriching experiences contribute to our commitment to equipping our students with the skills, knowledge, and exposure necessary to thrive in their future endeavours. This experiential learning opportunity not only broadened their horizons but also ignited their passion for potential careers in the industry. At LVS Hassocks, we will continue to create transformative experiences that empower our students to embark on successful and fulfilling careers.
